GRANT SUMMARY – DISTANT SIGNALS PIECE

I invite you to listen to my new piece DISTANT SIGNALS for voice and electronics. The composition was created as a conclusion of the Digital Tools of the Contemporary Composer grant project.
DISTANT SIGNALS is a continuation of my artistic work, which focuses on combining acoustic instruments with
electronic means. The recording of the piece was created thanks to the knowledge gained from the courses taken in the venture and with the help of software purchased as part of the scholarship.

Karol Osman’s scholarship ventures Digital Tools for the Contemporary Composer received funding in the form of a development plan scholarship within the framework of Investment A2.5.1: Program to support the activities of cultural and creative industries entities to stimulate their development implemented under the component: Resilience and Competitiveness of the Economy, implemented under the Development Plan (KPO).

During a concert by the Chair of Percussion and Contemporary Music at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, Karol Osman’s piece Dream Within a Dream for soprano, saxophone, electric guitar, double bass and organ was premiered.

Volume IV of the publishing series Twórczość kompozytorów świętokrzyskich includes two works by Karol Osman: Paradise Lost for piano solo and Whisper in Purple for chamber ensemble.

During a concert at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles on the occasion of the celebration of the Constitution Day of the Third of May, the world premiere of Karol Osman’s composition Paradise Lost for solo piano was held, performed by Andrzej Ślązak, Ph.D., Professor UJK.

Within the walls of the Academy of Music in Kraków, an artistic and scientific session was held The compositional idea versus the instrumental idiom – a field of commonality? A field of conflict? Guitar and harp music from the perspective of the composer and performer as part of which Karol Osman’s piece In figura nubium was premiered by Dr Miłosz Mączyński.

The premiere of Karol Osman’s Triptych for two marimbas and electronics by the Dalbergia Duo ensemble during the Musical Tree concert as part of the 34th Krakow International Festival of Composers.

The premiere of the play SM. Masochistic Father-Son paintings on the boards of the Kielce Cultural Centre. On behalf of the Creators: Tomasz Sebastian Berg (choreography), Karol Osman (music), Beniamin Bukowski (dramaturgy), Basia Bińkowska (stage design) and the Dancers of the Kielce Dance Theatre, we would like to thank you for coming in large numbers! The performance was created as part of the New Epiphanies Festival.

The play with music by Karol Osman I Have Something to Tell You, directed by Maja Kubacka, received an honorable mention at the 8th National Festival of Young People Alchemy of Theater. Together with actresses: Katarzyna Pilewska and Annika Mikołajko, as well as all those involved in the creation of the project, we would like to say a big thank you!

The outdoor concert, organized by the Krakow Cultural Forum, featured Karol Osman’s latest electro-acoustic composition – Tales of the Robots as part of the festival with Lem Across Generations. We sincerely thank you for coming!

We are very pleased to announce that the play Shakespeare: a mock-up with music by Karol Osman was awarded the first honorary special OFF award and the audience award at the Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk. We would like to congratulate the creators of the play – Mira Manka and Anna Rogóż, Rozbark Theater and all those involved in this project.

Polish Radio Channel Two hosted the premiere of the radio play Little Bies, adapted and directed by Przemysław Ostrowski, with music by Karol Osman.

We are very pleased to announce that the film adaptation of The Threnody, directed by Damian Bieniek with music by Karol Osman, has gained new media patrons: The National Cultural Center, TVP Kultura, and the Polish Community Association. Excerpts from the series were awarded at the 2018 Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, one of the most prestigious corporate film festivals.
